Wendelle Stevens enlisted in the Army shortly after high school. He graduated from the Lockheed Aircraft Maintenance & Repair School, Aviation Cadet Training and Fighter Pilot Advanced Training. He learned to fly all the aircraft in the Air Corps inventory as well as a few US Navy aircraft. One of his assignments was the supervision of a classified team of specialists who installed hi-tech data collecting equipment aboard the SAC B-29s of the Ptarmigon Project . This equipment captured, recorded & analyzed all EMF emissions in the Arctic, photographed anomalous phenomena, and recorded disturbances in the aircraft systems – looking for external influences caused by UFOs. Unable to possess any of this information for himself, Stevens, upon return, began his own research and collection effort, eventually amassing the largest private collection of UFO photographs in the world. He began to publish reports on the events, and wrote many illustrated articles and books. He continues his investigations, seeking elusive answers to the many questions raised by this phenomenon.

In 1991, Stevens was approached by a security guard at Level 2 of S-4 in Area 51, and given a statement to be released in the event of harm or death of this "Black Seal" Marine, or any of his confederates in that facility, as a result of their actions. They were given physical exams every 90 days, which included a one hour hypnotic induction, where their subconscious minds were interrogated! A few days after his last physical, he was advised that he had a fatal disease that would take his life in a few weeks, and was given a medical discharge. Considering the type of work he did, and the fact that he felt perfectly healthy, he concluded that if he had the disease, it had been given to him by his supervisors. He became more angry and resentful and was determined to bring their whole 'house of cards' down with him. He knew this was a typical method of silencing people who knew too much. He came to Stevens with the story because he knew he worked alone. The story was not released until now - as Stevens finally has necessary corroborative proof.
