From 1995 thru 1997, Richard spent most of his spare time conducting a systematic bibliographic search, hunting down the many out-of-print books and UFO documents released over the years through the Freedom of Information Act. Once he began to delve, he found the amount of information nearly overwhelming. He was methodical, however, and eventually prepared a detailed chronology of relevant events, and realized it was more than enough for a useful text on the subject. The result is a book that ends the debate. "UFOs and the National Security State" is a thorough historical analysis of the national security dimensions of the UFO phenomenon. Getting past official pronouncements on one side, and unprovable assertions on the other, Richard has gathered together the facts that are known, providing a concise yet comprehensive narrative that gets to the heart of the matter: that the military and intelligence community take UFOs very seriously, despite their public statements about the matter.

Personal note from Richard Dolan: "Because this topic is so controversial, I have tried very hard to do as little arguing, and as much presenting of useful information as possible. Whether you think UFOs are alien, classified aircraft, or nonsense, this book will provide a clear path through a compli- cated historical maze. While I do believe, based upon the historical record, that this phenomenon is quite real, my opinions are unimportant. What matters is the historical record, insofar as we can learn it. I intend to make a contribution toward making that historical record clearer.
